Rudy the dog was severely ill and covered in bruises, scrapes, and broken bones when he came upon us on the street. Rudy was in such bad shape that his name was added to a list of people who would euthanize him.
Houston Street Dogs was a different opinion. They decided to adopt him and help him through his difficult recovery.
A woman was his foster mom, who had helped many dogs in need. But it wouldn’t be simple to put Rudy on the proper path, and there were some difficult choices to be made.
They immediately got in touch quickly with a foster mom who was familiar with dogs that had suffered terrible events and agreed to take him in. He was finally secure. He was covered in scratches and bruises. He was also afraid of people so it would be hard to get him back on track.
He was able to make it through months of rehabilitation thanks to the support and love of his foster mother. During this period, he was treated for mange, pneumonia and other illnesses.
He also had to have painful injections for his heartworm. He eventually became happy and healthy despite his hip issues that prevented him playing with his dog companions.
After Rudy’s X-ray revealed that Rudy needed a total hip replacement, a campaign was launched. This would have cost Rudy thousands of dollars. Rudy’s development was documented in a video that was soon made popular and, thankfully, money began to pour in.
Paw my Gosh reports that Rudy was able receive the surgery he needed to live a normal lifestyle.
Rudy has seen a dramatic shift in his outlook, but also in his happiness, and his brightness, which has changed from being hopeless and sad to joyful and bright.
What love and care can do to improve an animal’s quality of life is truly astounding. After being mistreated, you’d think Rudy would be violent, but he’s lovely and affectionate.
