  • CNN reports that Pelosi has been approached by several lawmakers to continue her role as House Democratic Leader.
  • Pelosi is wanted by some Democrats in an increasingly divided House.
  • Pelosi is widely praised for her ability to shepherd consequential pieces of legislation through Congress.

Nancy Pelosi, House Speaker has been well-known for her ability to rally Democratic legislators on difficult votes for consequential legislation like the Affordable Health Care Act and Inflation Reduction Act.

Pelosi has been the leader of the House Democratic caucus since 2003. She was widely expected to resign next year to make space for a new class of leaders after a term limit. We are in agreement she made while pursuing the speakership following the 2018 midterm elections.

The results of the 2022 midterms, thought, have altered the calculus  — at least for some Democrats — as the party could potentially retain an incredibly slender majority after all the results are tallied.

Pelosi has been contacted by several members who have asked her to remain in her role in the new Congress — even if the party falls short of retaining its current majority, pointing to her success in maintaining party discipline, according to two sources with knowledge of the situation CNN spoke to who.

Drew Hammill, Pelosi’s spokesperson, didn’t have a timeline to announce any announcements by the lawmaker.

He stated in a statement to CNN that “the speaker will make an announce when she makes an an announcement.” “Until then, let us all enjoy Kevin McCarthy losing the speakership his party didn’t even win in the first instance.”

A party must secure 218 of the total 435 seats to control the House.

As of November 12, Republicans held 210 seats and Democrats 198. According to Insider and the DDHQ.

The House currently controls 220-212 by Democrats.

The lower chamber was last controlled by Republicans in January 2019. They lost their seats in 2018’s midterms and gave up their majority to the Democratic Party.

Pelosi was the chamber’s leader from 2007 to 2011, and he regained his position as House Speaker in 2019.
