Reliable blocs Dems count on didn’t turn out in Texas early voting

Early voting data from Texas could spell Trouble for DemocratsWith demographics, the party often depends on people not voting during the early voting period.

Turnout Harris County TexasAccording to Texas Secretary-of-State data, Houston’s population was less in 2022 than it was during the 2018 midterm election. The decline was led by young voters who experienced a 35% drop in early voting and Black voters who saw a 25% drop. This could spell trouble for Democrats.

The delayed turnout operation forced Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Beto O’Rourke to visit Houston, Texas on Friday. He held rallies at Texas Southern University as well as The University of Houston to try to get young voters out the polls.

O’Rourke stated that there is a rise in voter participation at all locations where he stops and rallies. He thanked them for their efforts to ensure we win and pull through.

Generally, Democrats are more likely to vote earlier than Republicans. RepublicansTraditionally, they have been more inclined to vote on Election Day. Houston’s early voter turnout was between 7-10% and this could play a critical role in Texas’s election.

Professor of political science at Texas Southern University Michael Adams said that “I believe the difference in this election will depend upon which party has the best infrastructure for turning out the votes.” KTRK was informed by Adams.
