Reece James was injured in his knee and has been excluded from the World Cup.
The injury occurred during the Chelsea match. club’s Champions League clash with AC Milan at the San SiroAfter being forced off in 62nd minute.
The 22-year-old didn’t look too happy as he limped off the pitch after landing awkwardly, but was later seen on his feet shaking hands at full time.
James has since been the subject of speculation regarding how bad his injury actually was, with manager Graham Potter saying: “We’re hoping he’ll be okay.
“It’s 24 to 48 hours too early to give you anything more than that.”
James also Posts on social media, writing: “Fingers crossed it’s not a bad one. Love for all the messages, I appreciate you all.”
But according to a statement on Chelsea’s official website,The player will be out of action for approximately eight weeks.
The statement said: “Following the knee injury sustained in our away match against AC Milan, Reece has received treatment from the Chelsea medical department and visited a specialist this weekend.
“After consultation between all parties, Reece will now undergo a rehabilitation programme and is expected to be out for eight weeks.”
As a result James will miss the chance to be a part of England’s World Cup squad in Qatar, with Gareth Southgate set to select his squad on October 21.
With the competition getting underway on November 20th and concluding on December 18, it means that the full-back will be hoping to be back in action for Chelsea’s festive schedule, but would need a small miracle to be fit enough to be selected in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
