Chelsea’s Reece James has had an ‘encouraging first assessment’ on a knee injury picked up against AC Milan.
The fullback was removed after being injured in the 62nd minute of the Blues’ Champions League 2-0Chelsea and England fans were concerned when Chelsea won at San Siro.
It was feared that the club and country might be without a key player after his knee was jarred. The Daily Telegraph reportsIt is possible that things are not as bad after all they seem.
The report adds James’ injury will be further assessed on Thursday before a diagnosis is made but the player is ‘optimistic of receiving good news.’
The 22-year-old didn’t look too happy as he limped off the pitch after landing awkwardly, but was later seen on his feet shaking hands at full time.
When asked about the issue, manager Graham Potter said: “We’re hoping he’ll be OK.
“It’s 24 to 48 hours too early to give you anything more than that.”
James also posted on social media, writing: “Fingers crossed it’s not a bad one. Love for all the messages, I appreciate you all.”
Only Raheem Sterling has contributed more than James’ two goals and two assists for Chelsea in all competitions this season, and the right-back is a key figure for England.
Manchester City’s Kyle Walker and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, who are other options for Gareth Southgate, are also sidelined.
Alexander-Arnold, like James, also received good news. He will be back in two weeks for an ankle injury. Walker, on the other hand, has had surgery to correct a groin problem.
