Chelsea showed style with their Champions League victory over AC Milan, as they won 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Their first victory of the European campaign was secured by Wesley Fofana’s goal in the first half and second-half goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Reece James and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
James’ strike, which saw him slam the ball into the roof of the net on 61 minutes, drew huge praise from former ChelseaAndy Townsend, man
Townsend said on commentary for talkSPORT: “Brilliant goal, fabulous play from Chelsea. And Reece James who’s so good at the top of the field, he’s got everything required in this wing-back position.
“He could play anywhere this boy, he reminds me of Paul McGrath.
“The way he can play in midfield, play at centre-half, full-back, play where you like because he’s strong, he’s powerful, he’s intelligent and he always wants to make the difference.
“Three doesn’t flatter Chelsea, it really doesn’t.”
Townsend added at full time: “Reece James has to start in Gareth Southgate’s team at the World Cup in Qatar… rarely does he make poor decisions in defence.”
James was the provider for Aubameyang’s goal as he retrieved an overhit cross from the left before picking out Aubameyang, who volleyed in from close range.
Fofana slotted the opener at 24 minutes. But, he fell ill with a worrying looking knee injury38 minutes later, after a collision against Milan midfielder Rafael Leao.
That was the only black mark on what was a fine European performance for Graham Potter’s men, who are second in Group E, a point behind RB Salzburg.
