Dmitry Tursunov admitted he stopped coaching Emma Raducanu because of ‘red flags’.
The Russian The former winner of the US Open began to work with himSoon after her premature exit from Wimbledon, she was back in the spotlight.
The couple announced that they were ending their relationship in October after a brief time.
In just 15 months, the 19-year-old was left looking for a fifth coach.
Tursunov began the year coaching AnettKontaveit and now works with Olympic gold-medal winner Belinda Bencic.
Now, he has spoken out about what happened and wants to make it clear that he was not able to take on the role of Bencic.
“No, I didn’t. It’s absolutely not true,” explained Tursunov to tennis majors.com.
“I was walking away from Emma regardless of whether there was another [player]Available or not. We didn’t agree on the terms and there were some red flags that just couldn’t be ignored.
“So that’s why it’s a little frustrating to read things like that… I wasn’t hopping from one player to another, I wouldn’t do that.”
He added: “Our trial period was over at the US Open but I stuck around, trying to see if there was going to be a way to impress the team (He laughs). I really wanted to make it work.”
Tursunov had many positive things to say about Tursunov, the British number one who came into prominence after winning the US Open 2021.
He continued: “First of all, she’s absolutely great, she’s a hard worker and she doesn’t think or act like she’s a superstar. She is always striving to improve her game and is obsessed about tennis. I think it’s quite a rare combination.
“So I really loved working with her, and I really wanted to make it work. It was a very difficult decision for me to walk away from a player that I like and respect.”
