Reading and QPR both have new managers and hope. But can they maintain their place in the top six?

Predictions of the 2022-23 Championship Season were not optimistic Reading.

After the arrival of Paul Ince as manager in February, Reading survived relegation by the skin of their teeth last season (four points above relegated Peterborough) and it seemed like the new campaign wouldn’t be much different for the division’s regular chaos club.

There are also question marks that can be raised Queens Park RangersAlthough they looked like a solid bet for the playoffs at times, they ultimately lost their chance at a Premier League return slip away in disappointing fashion. An 11th-place finish saw Mark Warburton leave the club at the end of his contractAnd in his place came Michael Beale — formerly assistant to Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa and RangersKnown as the ‘human tactics board’ — for his first management role in senior football.

Both clubs have got off to flying starts however — Reading are third in the table and QPR are fourth — and they will meet in an intriguing Friday night clash at Loftus Road. But what has made each team so effective and what can be expected of the Championship’s two dark horses?

On Friday night, a battle for dominance will likely be the main event. Both teams have made good use of their flanks so far.
