Quinn Report: Cowboys’ pass defense has improved and they have changed their tactic.

The new season is four games in and everyone is already looking at the next. CowboysAdmiration is the best defense. Why wouldn’t you? They rank near the top in nearly every defensive stat. They are third in total points allowed, seventh and sixth in yards allowed, sixth in passing yard allowed, eighth in third down conversions, fifth for red zone conversions and fourth respectively in sacks per effort, points per drive, yards per play, and sacks per attempt. They may have a defense that can match those numbers, but it is still not of elite quality.

They now have to show some staying power.

That is something we know will be put to the test in large numbers when it comes to visits to the Rams EaglesIn the next two weeks. If the numbers still look impressive after their trip, we should have a story to tell and a contender.

It’s interesting to see the changes the Cowboys made to their defense since last year. It’s also important that we don’t jump to too many conclusions. This is a reminder of the debate between idealistic and realistic when it come to coaching a football club that has many options as to how to play. You have this idealistic plan in the offseason which usually can be known as the “best-case scenario” where everyone is healthy and playing well. Then you have the realistic situations that pop up, such as playing a month without a starting quarterback that will alter everything — including the defense.

The numbers prove that the Cowboys have a new style of defense.
