Each team was made aware of the news more than a week before it leaked to the media.

Eubank Jr. and his team sought medical advice. The boxer ultimately decided to go ahead regardless.

The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC), however, announced that once the information was made public, they would Interdiction the fight from taking place as planned.

Sauerland and Benn’s promoter Eddie Hearn are now disputing this and Try to to force a U-turn.

“That has then been taken to independent experts, and then it’s been put to the most important person on our side who’s been affected by this, and that’s obviously Eubank Jr.

“I spoke with Eubank Jr last night and he’s on board. That’s where we are today.

“There’s not too much of an update I can give you other than that the legals are going back-and-forth with the representatives of the board…

“At the end of the day, we act in Eubank Jr’s interests.

“So if he says, ‘Fight’s going ahead,’ we try and make that fight go ahead.

“We act within the rules.”

Jim White suggested this in truth was all about the money, to which Sauerland answered: “It’s a professional sport, so of course money is involved.

“At the same time, I would say for Eubank Jr to step away there would be a serious case [for damages], and there’s a lot of other fights on the table. So yes and no.”

At this point Jordan interrupted and began: “As a promoter, what you are advocating for is a situation where a legal mechanism overcomes a failed drugs test.”

Sauerland replied: “We are going to play everything by the rules.

“Now, the question isn’t about money.”

But again Jordan intervened: “But come on Kalle, it’s the scale of this fight, you know it and I know it.

“I don’t want to pin your back against the wall because you’re the only one who’s got any balls to come on and answer these questions because Eddie Hearn isn’t doing that…

“You’re trying to find a loophole to get around the British Boxing Board of Control’s position.”

Sauerland responded: “First of all Simon, I’m not Eddie.

“From our side, we have always done one thing – that’s act in the interest of our athletes.

“You can question that, you can say that’s wrong, but we follow it by the book and the letter of the law.”

Jordan went on to add: “It’s one thing Derek Chisora and David Haye fighting under Luxembourg rules because they didn’t have British Boxing Board licences, it’s another thing going to Luxembourg, Liechtenstein or Poland and trying to find a way to get round the governing authority in this country.

“It can’t be right Kalle.”

Sauerland answered: “I hear you Simon, but you have to understand my position in this is for Eubank Jr.

“I have to make sure he is fully informed, I have to make sure we follow the rules, I have to make sure we are doing everything by our client.”

Sauerland concluded: “Let me make one closing comment – I will do everything I can for Chris Eubank Jr, that’s what it boils down to.”

To which Jordan replied: “Then pull him out of the fight Kalle, pull him out of the fight, it’s the right thing to do.”

Sauerland quipped in response: “I will give you his number.”
