Princess Leia’s speech, droids, and more missed Easter eggs in Andor episode 7

The 7th episode. AnnouncementIn Andor, has a series of Easter eggs, which shows the show’s brilliant way to pay homage to its predecessor, while paving its own way. The series is using Easter eggs quite skillfully, and it’s becoming a regular feature.

This episode focuses on what happens after the Aldhani successful heist. While the Empire was still processing news, they made a decision to be more stringent in their authority, which Luthen had hoped. Cassian Andor, however, is not involved in the drama and finds the Empire trying his best to catch him up. There are many Easter eggs or callbacks which are setting up how dark it’s going to get.

Leia’s Speech

Tarkin is warned in The New Hope by Princess Leia that the tighter your grip, Tarkin the more star systems will slip from your fingers. This scene is perfectly reflected in the opening scene of Andor, which shows a fist clenched at the beginning. Eventually, Luthen states how he wanted the Imperial’s overreaction because people would then see how villainous the Empire is.

Colonel Yularen

Colonel Wullf Yiularen from the Imperial Security Bureau is one of the most prominent characters. He delivers a chilling speech. He is an important source of information for Emperor Palpatine as well as someone who plays a critical role in the development and implementation of Imperial Intelligence. He fought in the Clone Wars, and will be a bridge officer for the first Death Star.

Imperial Surveillance

The Imperial surveillance state has reached its peak following the heist because Palpatine is aware that knowledge is his key to power. Alexander Freed’s Victory’s Price, describes how the Emperor used Coruscant’s Undercity to gather information about individuals and groups. It’s how he was able to know what is happening in the galaxy, as for the security bureau, it became their greatest weapon.

Stormtroopers

The force was not visible in the show. This was why the show chose to present itself as different. They have now taken over the galaxy since the attack. Stormtroopers are most visible on Coruscant. They eventually appear in the Morlana sector, too.

Rebel Alliance

Andor, after much waiting, addresses the creation of the Rebel Alliance cells and how they managed to function despite being under constant Empire surveillance. ISB had several sections across the galaxy with their own case workers. The staff were not involved so they did not see patterns of which groups were working. This gave the rebels an opportunity to exploit the loophole. To steal resources from one sector, they could use them in the other. They turned the Empire’s surveillance against themselves.

Mon Mothma

Mon Mothma cannot access her family funds because she is being monitored. She calls Tay Kolma, an old friend, to help her fund the Rebel Alliance. She informs him of her intentions, but only three people know. Luthen, his aide and Senator Bail Organa are the other two. Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, and others worked together in Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. They kept their secrets and Mon Mothma didn’t know the identity of Bail’s adopted daughter Leia.

They are telling people that she will be the reason the Clone Wars when they frame her as a champion of “separatists”, and the Empire has already done this to her. So, she will be tied to the Ghorman-related incident.

Clone Troopers

In one of Cassian’s flashbacks, we see the planet Ferrix. The event was following the Republic’s transformation into the Empire as there is a lack of Imperial Stormtroopers. We also see Clone troopers that are reluctant to harm civilians. This was just before inhibitor chips were introduced. This new detail confuses the show’s timeline as previously he had discovered a crashed Republic ship, and a dialogue implying that it must have been set during Clone Wars. His memories may be fuzzy.

Ord Mantell

It is a Mid Rim Planet, which is famous for its underworld activities. It contains a Black Sun Cell. This cell was activated during the Clone Wars. Clone force 99 had already operated a mission there for Star Wars: The Bad Batch. This is significant because Yavin 4, a planet located in the Bright Jewel Oversector, was the home of the Rebel Alliance in Star Wars: The Original Series.

Shoretroopers. Probe Droids. Security Droids.

Cassian visits Niamos on vacation but is stopped by the Empire because he took the wrong street. On the scene are Imperial Shoretrooper and probe droids as well as security droids. Everyone was scared of the droids after Clone Wars because the empire used them for its power.
