Brighton won’t hold staff hostage when offers come in — chief executive Paul Barber
Brighton & Hove Albion are sticking to their policy of allowing key staff to talk to other clubs after losing head coach Graham Potter to Chelsea.
They gave permission for Potter to speak to Chelsea last week, once they’d established that £20million in compensation for the buyout clause in Potter’s contract would be met.
Paul Barber, Brighton’s chief executive, said that football clubs were not prisons. We are not in a place to hold employees against our will.
We try to protect ourselves as best we can with contracts. Contracts, we hope, will always be respected, but where people have an outstanding opportunity and they feel that it’s better for them, their careers, their families, then we’ve got an open mind.”

Marcus Edwards can play for England — Ruben Amorim
Ruben Amorim, Sporting Lisbon boss, believes Marcus Edwards, an ex-T Tottenham winger could play for England in the near future.
Tomorrow’s match will be the 23-year-old’s first since his departure in 2019 against his former club.
Edwards, who joined Vitoria Guimaraes in January from Vitoria Guimaraes, has scored three goals and assisted three others this season.
Amorim stated that Marcus is a very talented player ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League match in Lisbon.
He took some time to adjust to the Portuguese lifestyle, but now he is more consistent.
“He could get better and play for England’s national team. He can be trusted, he is capable of great things, but we did an excellent job hiring him.”

Robert Lewandowski ready for special game against Bayern Munich — Xavi
Xavi, Barcelona’s manager, said Robert Lewandowski was “very motivated” ahead of tomorrow’s match against Bayern Munich.
Lewandowski will be returning to his home of eight years, as Bayern and Barcelona face off in Group C of the Champions League.
The veteran Pole pushed Bayern to sell him to Barcelona in the summer with the Germans reluctantly accepting a fee which could rise to €50million (£43m, $51m) including add-ons.

Chelsea vs Liverpool, Man Utd and Leeds postponed in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral
Three Premier League fixtures, including Chelsea vs Liverpool or Manchester United vs Leeds United, were postponed due to Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
In a statement on Monday, the Premier League said: “Following extensive consultation with clubs, police, local Safety Advisory Groups and other relevant authorities, there was no other option but to postpone the three fixtures.”
Brighton’s fixture against Crystal Palace on Saturday had already been called off due to rail strikes. With police resources concentrated in the capital, the game at Old Trafford between Manchester United (Leeds) will not take place as originally planned on Sunday. Similarly, Chelsea’s match at Stamford Bridge for the later kick-off has also been called off.

Rogic is free to West Brom
West Bromwich Albion has confirmed that Tom Rogic, a free agent, has been signed to a one-year contract.
The 29-year old midfielder was a Celtic player for nine years. He made 178 league appearances and scored 32 goals.
Albion were forced into using the free-agent marketplace after Steven Alzate’s deadline day pursuits of Joshua Onomah collapsed. Steve Bruce, manager of Albion, was eager to recruit reinforcements to the midfield after Alex Mowatt’s departure on a season-long loan from Middlesbrough.
Rogic, who holds 53 caps for Australia adds depth to middle park where he will support Jayson Mouldy, Jake Livermore, and Turkey’s international Okay Yokuslu.

Graham Potter speaks out about the type of Chelsea team he would like to see
Potter said: “It’s about creating a team that competes, that has respect for each other, that’s honest, that works for each other. So it’s a combination of, I would say, human and football values that we try to work with.
“I think you have to understand that they (players) are human beings first and the key thing is to try to understand them, understand what motivates them and understand what they’re like as people.”
