Police say at least 9 were hurt in a mass shooting that occurred outside a Philadelphia bar.

An investigation was in progress PhiladelphiaNine people were killed in a shooting incident at a bar on Saturday night.

FOX 29 Philadelphia reported that shots rang out in Kensington at 10:45 p.m., outside a bar close to Kensington and East Allegheny Avenues.

Initial thought was that 12 people were injured, but John Stanford, First Deputy Commissioner of Philadelphia Police, confirmed this in a news conference Nine people were killed. Two of the victims are in serious condition while the rest are stable.

FOX 29 reported that victims include a mix between men and women, ranging in age from 23 to 49.

Stanford Officers were on patrolWhen they heard heavy gunfire, they were in the area. As evidence, investigators on the scene identified at least 40 shell casings. 

“We have some brazen individuals in this city who don’t care.” Stanford stated that they don’t care about how many police officers are here or how many people are here. “We will do everything we can to keep these people in custody.

Stanford stated that the shooters were in a black car and were lingering around the area when they exited the vehicle and started firing shots towards the sidewalk. The suspects fled immediately.

Although police have not determined a motive, they believe that the shooters were targeting someone else in the bar.

Stanford stated that the mass shooting occurred in an area with a lot of people. When Stanford was asked if there was any threat to the public, his answer was that gun violence is a threat to him.

Stanford stated to a reporter, “You should be free to walk the streets of the city without worrying about gunfire.”
