West Ham’s Europa Conference League win over Anderlecht was marred by fan violence in the stands at the London Stadium.
As violence broke out at South Stand, where supporters of away were housed, police had to intervene and form a line that separated West Ham and Anderlecht supporters.
Ian Abrahams was covering the match for talkSPORT and revealed that he saw chairs and a flare being thrown while police tried to manage the situation.
During the match orange flames engulfed some stands.
One supporter ran onto the pitch and took the ball from Alphonse Areola, Hammers goalkeeper.
The man was taken from the scene by stewards.
A spokesperson for Anderlecht commented on the seat-throwing and flares. The Sun: “The club will take it up with the fans and UEFA.
“We want to apologise to West Ham. We don’t tolerate it. We strongly condemn this behaviour.”
On the pitch it was a successful evening for David Moyes’ side, who secured their place in the knockout stage of the Conference League.
Said Benrahma’s and Jarrod Bowen’s stunning goals made West Ham 2-0 ahead at the half.
Anderlecht pulled a goal back through Sebastiano Esposito’s 89th-minute penalty but West Ham held on to the winThis allows them to qualify for the knockout stage.
