Phillies just one win away World Series: The offense pumps it on in Game 4 win against Padres

It wasn’t a good start for the Philadelphia PhilliesDouble-digit runs can cure almost anything.

The Phillies are now one win away from winning the National League pennant after their 10-6 win over the  in Game 4 of the NLCS.

Bailey Falter retired his first two opponents, making it a bullpen game for the Phillies. Manny Machado hit a solo homer to left-center, putting the Padres ahead early. But the Padres kept it coming – the next two Padres got on base, and Brandon Drury drove them both in with a double. Rob Thomson pulled Falter but Ha-Seong Kim got an RBI single from Connor Brogdon, putting San Diego up 4-0.

The Phillies responded immediately. Rhys Hoskins hit a two-run homer after Kyle Schwarber had led off the bottom inning with a single. This cut down the deficit by half. J.T. Realmuto then took to the streets and won. Bryce Harper’s double. Neither pitcher record three outs – in fact, Padres’ Mike Clevinger didn’t record one.

ASTROS PUT YANKEES ON BRINK OF GETTING SWEPT IN ALCS AFTER GETTING SHUT OUT IN GAME 3

The Phillies were silent in the second and third innings, but they put the tying run on the base in the fourth with a leadoff single from Nick Castellanos and Bryson Stett driving him in with one.

Juan Soto brought San Diego back ahead with a two-run homer in the fifth. But Hoskins responded immediately with his second two run homer of the evening, tying up the game at six. The fifth was almost identical to the first. Realmuto scored again from first on Harper’s double, giving the Phillies their first lead for the night. Harper was brought in by Castellanos, who hit a single up the middle. The Phillies led 9-6 with Schwarber hitting a solo home run in the sixth. Realmuto then joined the fun by hitting a solo homer in the seventh.

In this case, the Phillies relief pitchers (in this case, non starters) combined for 8.1 innings. The runs came on Soto’s homer. They allowed five hits, struck out eight, and walked one.
