Paul Ryan predicts Trump won’t be 2024 Republican nominee

Paul Ryan, R.-Wisc., former House Speaker, stated that he doesn’t expect to be able to serve as House Speaker again. Former President Donald TrumpTo win the Republican nomination to the presidency in 2024.

“I think Trump’s un-electability will be palpable by then,” Ryan said. “We all know he will lose, or let me put it this way: we all know he’s much more likely to lose the White House than anybody else running for president on our side of the aisle. Why would we choose to follow that path?

Former congressman said that Trump’s only reason for “staying where he is” is because everyone is afraid of him, referring to Republicans. “They’re afraid of him going after them, hurting their own ambition.”

Ryan predicted that any Republican attempting to challenge Trump in 2016 would be defeated by Ryan GOP primaryHe is likely to take his time when announcing a bid for White House.

“I think people will delay their decisions, and they’ll wait for somebody else to take the first plunge to take the ire of Trump, to have him go after that person and try and hurt them with MAGA voters, so then they can follow behind,” Ryan said. 

“So, it’s kind of a prisoner’s dilemma,” he continued. “But the person who gets in the race earlier can organize earlier, can sign up supporters earlier, can sign up donors earlier, can get a better jump on it, so it really is a total prisoner’s dilemma.”

“There’s a handful of people that are going to run, because it’s the only cycle they can run in. They can’t wait until 2028,” he said. “They’ve got to go now, if they’re ever going to go. And they don’t want to die without ever trying.”

Florida Governor is one of the potential presidential candidates for Republicans in 2024. Ron DeSantis (South Dakota Governor). Kristi Noem (Governor of Maryland). Larry Hogan, Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney. Former Vice President Mike Pence. Ambassador Nikki Haley; former Secretary Of State Mike Pompeo.

Ryan said he expects the Republican primary to be crowded in 2024 as some members of the party are currently riding on high favorability.

Ryan claimed that too many Republican primary candidates could dilute the non-Trump vote and leave the former president with little support. However, Ryan predicted that the Republican Party would be united behind a non Trump candidate during the primary.

Ryan stated that he believes the GOP would choose another former president, despite recent polls showing Trump performing poorly in a presidential matchup against Democrats.

“Whether he runs or not, I don’t really know if it matters,” Ryan said. “He’s not going to be the nominee, I don’t think.”
