On Tuesday, the San Francisco DA asked Judge Diane Northway for DePape’s detention until future hearings.
Northway also signed an order prohibiting DePape to come within 150 yards or contact Nancy or Paul Pelosi.Â
The DA provided a fresh insight into the incident that occurred in the early hours on Friday, October 28th. Prosecutors described the horrifying scene that Pelosi witnessed as police opened her door.
The court filing stated that Pelosi, who was with the attacker when police arrived at the residence, walked to the first level of the house and was able open the door for them. According to the filing, they fought over the hammer before the suspect beat him.
“One officer ordered that the hammer be dropped!” According to the filing, “But Mr. Pelosi couldn’t hold on to the hammer. The Defendant grabbed the hammer from Mr. Pelosi and immediately stepped back. He then lunged at Mr. Pelosi with full force, striking him in the head with the hammer. This knocked him unconscious.
According to the filing, Pelosi fell asleep briefly and began bleeding from his head shortly before emergency personnel arrived.Â
Prosecutors wrote that officers rushed to the house and tackled Defendant. “Mr. Pelosi became unconscious after three minutes. He woke up in his own blood.
Paul Pelosi had surgery at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital for a “skull fracture” and other serious injuries. Speaker Pelosi’s office released a statement last week.
If convicted on the state attempted kidnapping charge, DePape could serve up to 20 years in prison and could serve life in prison if convicted on all state charges.
His public defender denied any allegations against him.
