Voting history for Ohio’s 9th Congressional District

Ohio’s 9th Congressional District currently is called the “snake-by-the lake” because it stretches along a narrow, winding, gerrymandered strip of Lake Erie running from just west Cleveland to Toledo. It also runs alongside Ohio’s state border with Michigan.

Kaptur has benefited from this. Kaptur has easily beaten her Republican counterparts in this Democratic, blue-collar district over the past decade. This district saw Joe Biden defeat Donald Trump by approximately 19 percentage points in 2020. Hillary Clinton, Democratic presidential candidate, won the district by 22 percentage points over Trump in 2016.

But Ohio’s redrawn 9th Congressional District — the district in which Kaptur and Majewski are running — is decidedly redder, centered in blue-ish Toledo but encompassing significantly more rural (and Republican-leaning) areas both to the west and east.

The money race

According to OpenSecretsKaptur raised $3.1million, spent $3.1million, and had approximately $738,000 cash as of October 19. Majewski raised approximately $930,000 and spent around $777,000. He also has $154,000 cash in his bank account as of October 19.

Super PACs, National Party Committees, and Other Non-Candidate Groups have merged as of November 5. Spend more than $4.5 million in this race, including during the race’s primary phase. House Majority PAC, a national Democratic party Hybrid PACSupport Kaptur to lead all spenders
