A New York Supreme Court judge ruled that workers in New York City who refused to take the COVID-19 vaccine must be rehired. They will also get back their wages for their time.
In a Tuesday’s decision was made publicJudge Ralph Porzio stated that, “though vaccination should have been encouraged, public employees shouldn’t have been terminated because they are not complying.”
“It is now that New York is going to do the right thing and be just,” says Republican, Saad Porzi.
The decision has been appealed by the city. The Washington Post reportedThis could lead to it being overturned.
The Post was informed by a spokesperson for New York City’s Law Department that the city strongly disagreed with the ruling because the mandate is solidly grounded in law and critical to New Yorkers health.
Insider reached out to the New York City Law Department for clarification but was not immediately able to respond.
This ruling was made in the case of a group city sanitation workers, who were fired in February for refusing to get vaccinated.
The 16 workers claimed that they were naturally immune to previous infections. The New York Post reported.
Porzi stated Tuesday that his order was not a comment on the efficacy or vaccination but rather about how we treat our first responders. He also cited The recent statement of President Joe BidenThe pandemic was over.
