NPR shocked social media with the broadcast of audio by a Michigan woman. Having an abortion.
In the 11-minute segment, it was noted that women are increasingly involved in politics. Michigan: TravelingIn record numbers, people are searching for abortions after Roe V. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court earlier this year. This polarizing issue will be on the ballot as Michiganders go out to vote on Election Day. NPR sent journalist Kate Wells to an Abortion Clinic outside Detroit to observe and speak to patients.
Wells was able to meet a woman who wanted to end her pregnancy. NPR recorded the audio. According to Wells, the woman had her abortion “around 11 weeks” and Wells placed a spotlight upon the dim lighting and soothing music that made it feel “a lot more like childbirth.”

The woman was told she would be “partially asleep” and that a machine could be heard to end her pregnancy. Brandy, a staffer, consoled the woman. One woman stated that her cramps were too painful.
“Within just a couple of minutes, it’s over,” Wells told listeners as the woman moaned.
Brandy said, “You did it.” “You did a great job.”
Conservative strategist Greg Price hesitantly shared a clip of NPR’s audio, which quickly went viral and Outraged conservatives.
“I almost didn’t want it to be tweeted, but it’s something that everyone should know. NPR played audio this morning about a woman having an abortive procedure. The doctor tells her that it’s over. You can hear the vacuum turning, crying, moaning and the doctor telling them. Warning: It’s difficult to listen to,” Price wrote in the accompanying audio.
When it comes to abortion, the left talks in euphemisms. ‘Choice,’ ‘reproductive care,’ etc. This clip shows what abortion really is. It’s violence and complete dehumanization. It’s vital to share it. Price added, “To show reality,” in a follow up tweet.
“So listen to this audio. It’s extremely difficult, but it’s essential,” he said. “Listen to this and think about what the Democrat Party is pitching to the voters for the midterm election. It is more of that.”

NPR’s decision was questioned by many on the right, and some were concerned that it might backfire. Others were just disgusted.
“It is difficult to imagine NPR thinking this way. However, pro-life advertisements have been frequently taken down or rejected due to their depiction of the horrors of abortion. Matt Whitlock, a GOP communications flack, wrote that NPR had set out to normalize abortions. “It seems like this chilling segment might have an opposite effect.”
NPR did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
The conservative Media Research Center tweeted, “This is disturbing and Evil on Every Level.”

“I couldn’t bring myself to listen to it. Helen Raleigh, author of This is Not Mercy, wrote.
Chadwich Moore replied, “So disturbing,” while Young America’s Foundation simply responded, “Gross.”
Popular Twitter account Libs of TikTok called the phenomenon “demonic” and Bethany Mandel refused not to listen.

“I’m going to caveat this tweet with the fact that I am have not and will not listen to it. Mandel responded that this tactic, which reveals the reality of abortion to Americans, could backfire.
Fox News Radio’s Guy Benson called it “stomach-turning” and Daily Caller’s Nicole Silverio called it “heart wrenching.”
