Hartzell received his prize Monday at Raleigh’s lottery headquarters. Hartzell decided to accept a lump sum payment of $600,000. Rather than an annuity of $50,000 for 20 years, Hartzell chose to cash in the lump sum of $600,000.
Hartzell took home $426,063 after paying the required federal and state tax withholdings.
WINNING LOTTERY: BLESSING TO SOME, CURSE TO OTHERS
Hartzell stated to the outlet that “this couldn’t be at a better moment in my life.”
Hartzell said that he plans to use his winnings in order to support his children. Hartzell said he also intends to purchase a home, instead of renting.
