No. 21 Oregon State overcomes a three-touchdown deficit to defeat No. 9 Oregon

The Beavers (9-3 Pac-12 6-3 Pac-12, No21 CFP) were trailing 31-10 at the end of the third quarter and 34-17 at the beginning of the fourth. But, they won the game. Ducks (9-3-7-2, No. 9 CFP)Three consecutive possessions of short field gave the rivals an advantage, leading to touchdowns.

First, Oregon surrendered a Silas Bolden kickoff return of 48 yards to Oregon. A facemask penalty placed Oregon State at the Ducks 36. Newell ran for a touchdown of 15 yards to make it 34-24.

Next, Alex Bales is a Oregon punterThe snap was dropped and he fell on the ball at his feet 2. Ben Gulbranson hit it from one yard two plays later to bring Oregon State within 34-31.

Oregon took the ball on fourth-and-1 at their own 29. The Ducks’ quarterback Bo Nix was then stopped for a 1-yard loss. Newell scored on the fourth play, and a bunch of blockers helped him get into the end zone at 6 yards.

While the Ducks are still eligible to play in the Pac-12 Championship game, Washington State needs to defeat Washington State on Saturday. Washington will win and the No. 14 Utah would play No. 5 Southern California.

Oregon State ran for 268 yards with five touchdowns to overcome its inability to pass. Damien Martinez led the charge with 103 yards, on 15 carries. Ben Gulbanson was only 6 of 13 for 60 yards with two interceptions. He ran for two scores. Newell ran for two touchdowns on his only two carries.

Nix passed for 327 yard and two touchdowns. Oregon finished with 470 yards. But Nix’s inability running was a major factor.
