According to RealClearPolitics’ polling average, the New York gubernatorial race between Kathy Hochul, an incumbent Democrat and Lee Zeldin, is now a “tossup.”
The polling outlet’s Rolling average The results of polls taken from Sept. 30 to October 12 show Hochul leading Republican congressman by 5.3%. However, 7% of voters remain undecided about who they will vote.
“We have just 24 days to go until we FIRE @KathyHochul & save our state. It’s not too late for Hochul to come out of hiding & do multiple debates with me across New York, starting immediately!” Zeldin stated in a Tweet, as well as a graphic showing that the race is moving from “lean Democrat” to “toss-up.”
This shift in polls is a significant return for Zeldin who was down as much as 24 percentage points in August.

Recent polling Marist University data showed that Hochul is ahead of Zeldin but independent voters support Zeldin at 49% to 35%. Rising crime resonates with more voters, particularly in New York City.

Miringoff from the Marist Institute for Public Opinion said in a statement. “Republicans say they are more likely to vote, enthusiasm for Zeldin among his supporters exceeds Hochul’s, and any shift to crime in the closing weeks is likely to benefit Zeldin.”
