New York City Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree

The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree arrived in Manhattan Saturday morning from upstate New York. 

The 82-foot Norway spruce was trucked into the city on the bed of a 115-foot trailer from the town of Queensbury — about 200 miles outside of the city — and was lifted by crane to take its place in front of Rockefeller Center, According to local news.

Even though the New York City tree is still unadorned with its estimated 50,000 multicolored lights, and its Swarovski crystal star star, people still came together to take photos and to admire the enormous tree. 

The ABC7NY report states that the tree, which is approximately 90 years old, was taken down on Thursday. It will be lit up in ceremonial fashion November 30. It will remain on display until mid January.

Although the tree is only around for two months, it attracts approximately 500,000 people during its time at the Rockefeller Center. Habitat for Humanity reports that the following:.

After the holiday season, the 14-ton tree can be turned into lumber by Habitat for Humanity. This charity provides homes for families in dire need. Associated Press reports.
