Soon after Netflix’s official confirmation of its ad-supported Tier, the company co-CEO Ted Sarandos saidNew $6.99 subscription plans will include access to the “vast majority” of Netflix’s content.
Now that the Ad tier, officially known as “Basic With Ads”, has been live, we can get a better sense of what “vast majority” actually means.
VarietyThe new plan has been scanned for titles that are missing. These are shown in Netflix’s guide with an icon indicating lock icons if you’re on the Basic Without Ads plan). It also contains many popular movies and shows.
These are the shows for which you will need to pay more Arrested Development, House of Cards, Peaky Blinders, New Girl, The Magicians, The Last Kingdom, The Sinner, Good Girls, The Good PlaceAnd Friday Night Lights. The following movies are not included in the cheapest plans Skyfall, 28 Days, The Imitation Game The Bad Guys.
Variety was one of the first outlets to say that. The Crown Breaking BadVariety has since changed the article to clarify that they were not among the shows that are no longer available on the new tier.
Netflix claimed that the missing titles were due to licensing restrictions and promised that it was “working on” a solution.
Netflix’s Basic with Ads plan was launched in the U.S. Nov. 3 and will soon be available in 12 other countries. The U.S. is not the only country affected. These include Australia, Brazil, Canada and France. The new tier will become available in most of these countries on November 10.
The new tier does not have the same problems as the old tier. There is no way to download titles offline and no titles are missing.
