NBA and NBPA announce their efforts to promote respect at all levels of sports

The NBA and NBPATuesday’s announcement included a plan to encourage respect at all levels in basketball with the “Respect for the Game”.

Respect and dignity are core values for both the individuals and the institutions. NBA and NBPAIn a joint statement, Tamika Tremaglio (NBPA Executive Director) and Adam Silver (NBA Commissioner) stated that they were satisfied with the outcome. 

“With the beginning of the new NBA season, it is time to renew our commitment towards promoting healthy, courteous relationships between players, coaches and referees as well as fans, parents, and supporters throughout the game.”

The NBA, NBPA, and USA Basketball will collaborate with community partners, including National Basketball Coaches Association, National Basketball Referees Association, USA Basketball, and USA Basketball, to ensure that the program’s five pillars are adhered to. NBA.comThey are:

  • Promotion of mutual respect in work environments, arenas, communities, and other places where athletes, coaches, and teams compete.
  • Respecting the dignity and honor of all players, coaches and referees, as well as fans, staff and volunteers, and being a positive role model for all.
  • Promoting inclusion and diversity by respecting spaces, actions, opinions and other people.
  • Encourage and celebrate transparency, accountability, fair and honest communication.
  • We want to create a community that is kind and collaborative, where everyone feels safe and empowered to achieve their full potential without fear of retribution.
