NATO nuclear drills: B-52s fly overhead Europe, likely to overlap Russian nuke exercises

Russian military forcesExpect to continue pre-planned nuclear tests at the same moment as similar NATO drills.

NATO announced Friday that it had launched its annual “Steadfast Noon” exercise Monday. The drill that involves 14 countries will mobilize around 60 aircraft near the North Sea, Belgium and the United Kingdom. NATO doesn’t plan to use live-bombs.

NATO described the exercise as a “routine, recurring activity” and said it was not connected to current world events.

NATO stated that the aircraft included fighter jets, surveillance and bomber aircraft and U.S. B52 long-range bombers.

Russia is expected to follow suit. Pre-planned nuclear testing this month — annual nuclear drills often called “Grom” that normally take place in late October.

Tesla CEO Elon MuskInternationally, his public thoughts on the conflict between Ukraine, Russia have raised eyebrows. He speculated about the possibility of nuclear warfare.

“But surely no reasonable person would start a nuclear war?” Musk asked rhetorically. 

He added, “The problem with that logic is if we were dealing with reasonable people, we wouldn’t have war in the first place.”

The Biden administrationAccording to the White House, Ukraine will receive a $725million military aid package as well as other assistance in its fight against Russian forces. This is as Moscow escalates its invasion. 

The decision comes at a time when European defense officials had pledged weapons, air defense systems and other defense systems to Ukraine and Russia has launched a bombardment with missile strikes targeting Ukraine. Kyiv, and other regions
