Nancy Pelosi, House Speaker of the House, was attacked violently by her husbandEarly Friday morning brought forth comparisons with the violence displayed on January 6, 2021 by a mob rioters. Experts, analysts and lawmakers condemned this attack.

According to an expert on extremism, the isolated, early-morning incident at the couple’s San Francisco home this week is a far more serious crisis than the insurrection ever was.

Eric Ward, Senior Advisor to the Western States Center told Insider that “This is the unfolding events since January 6.” “I believe it’s just an indication of where we are as citizens.”

Police say that a 42 year old man broke into the Pelosi house early Friday morning. He attacked Paul Pelosi violently with a hammer and sent him to the hospital. Insider was told by Ruth Ben Ghiat (a professor of history at NYU) that Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of House and third in the line for Presidential succession, was a target. “The attacker who wounded Paul Pelosi was likely looking to find Nancy Pelosi in order to finish Jan. 6.”

Early searches of the suspect’s social media history indicate that he was a fan of many far-right conspiracy theories. 

Ward stated, “But the attack against Pelosi’s spouse is something much greater.” “This is not a coordinated attack, like the attack on the Capitol on January 6.

He said, “This is individuals changing the environment in which people feel self-actualized” and empowered to perform acts of violence and bigotry.

Ward stated that these would-be radicals don’t need to be surrounded by a large group of people to vent their anger. He said, “They have the security of the environment.”

Ward says it’s a cultural shift which is unlikely to improve unless federal government takes quick, sweeping actions.

He stated, “Our government refuses admit to what everyone else sees: that there is a war against American democracy fueled with conspiracies and bigotry and the promotion of violence.”
