MTG Will Be a Real Speaker Even if Kevin McCarthy gets the job: Ex-GOP Lawmaker

Joe Walsh, a former Illinois congressman, claims that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene will manage Rep. Kevin McCarthy behind-the scenes if he is elected Speaker of the Republican-led Congress 2023. 

“Look, McCarthy will probably be Speaker, but let’s be real — Marjorie Taylor Greene these next two years will be Speaker of the House,” Walsh told MSNBC’s Katie Phang on Sunday. “She will keep McCarthy short-haired every day for two years.”

McCarthy is aware of that. McCarthy only wants to be Speaker. He must do what Marjorie says he should do,” stated the former congressman who served as Speaker of the House between January 2011 and January 2013. 

Walsh described McCarthy as a “hollow person” who must pander to the GOP’s far-right side in order to lead the congressional Republicans. He said that Greene has more influence over the GOP’s base than the party’s moderates. 

“The American people don’t know who these House Republican moderates in the House are.” He said that they know Marjorie Taylor Greene. “Kevin McCarthy understands that.”

In response, Schiff McCarthy was called a “weak lead” by McCarthyMcCarthy said that McCarthy would do “whatever Marjorie Taylor Greene asks him to,” echoing Walsh’s sentiment.
