Miguel Almiron may have taken Jack Grealish joke seriously as Newcastle ace Miguel Almiron takes his Premier League tally up to five with goal versus Everton

Jack Grealish got into some trouble when he named-dropped Miguel Almiron during Man City’s title celebrations.

The Newcastle ace seems determined to prove the England international wrong.

It all began when Grealish, who had just won his first Premier League title, was having fun at the open-top bus parade.

Almiron was not amused by his jokes.

Bernardo Silva asked him to tell Bernardo Silva on camera what the secret was behind their victory over Aston Villa in the final day.

He said: ”There were two secrets… one, Riyad [Mahrez]As soon as you can, get him off the pitch. He played like [Newcastle star Miguel] Almiron.

“Number two, [pointing at Silva] he’s been so good this season, get him off the pitch.”

The Portuguese then came up with a third secret, adding: “Number three… keep Jack Grealish on the f***ing bench.”

It was an innocent joke. However, Grealish was criticized for his comments. Simon Jordan, a talkSPORT pundit, strongly reacted to them.

He said: “The bottom line is it takes Jack Grealish back to where he belongs – in moron territory. He engages his mouth before he engages the brain.

“There’s no problem with him having banter with his teammates, that’s absolutely fine. If someone was to say he was taking the mickey out of Riyad Mahrez, you’d say it was banter, they’ve got that rapport.

“But if you take it out of another domain and you pick another player, single him out, and ridicule him because you think you’re in a position to do so, where’s that going to end?”

Almiron has had a tough time since his £21million transfer from Atlanta United to Newcastle in 2019, which was then a club record.

He managed only 19 goals in his 134 games. But there are signs that a more successful time is on the horizon.

After scoring against Everton and Fulham, the 28-year-old looks like he might be trying to prove Grealish wrong

Eddie Howe, Almiron’s manager, was impressed by the performances.

After the 5-1 win over Brentford, he said: “I’d say every player is a confidence player but may be some more than others.

“I think Miggy is mentally very strong. When you look back at his career and the challenges that he’s faced, with the different countries he has played in, full credit to him for that journey.

“He arrives here now, mentally, in the best place he’s ever been. He was exceptional in his pre-season form. He’s taken that now into the earlier part of the season and I think there’s a lot more to come.

“I’m excited by what he can deliver but, even when he’s not scoring, he still delivers so much for the team that maybe goes unnoticed.”
