Meta’s VR legs video didn’t look like it was.

Meta announced its intention to merge with Google. Horizon WorldsIn the near future avatars will be able to walk. VR Mark Zuckerberg was able to jump up and down to show them off. We weren’t actually able see Meta generate full-body virtual reality avatars. According to UploadVRIan Hamilton, editor of the event, used animations created with motion capture to create them.

This process is commonly used in movies and games. It involves recording movements of real people or objects so that they can be converted into computer animated graphics. 

Meta claimed that “legs were one of our most requested features” during the event [its] roadmap, and it’s been a significant area of [the company’s] focus.” The addition of legs is a good idea. Horizon’sA legless avatar would represent a remarkable achievement, given the technological limitations of the VR devices that we have today. We know that VR headsets weren’t designed to track legs. Andrew Bosworth was the Meta CTO of Reality Labs and team leader. ExplainedTo CNN BusinessAn earlier version of this article stated that “Tracking your legs accurately is very difficult and practically impossible just from a physical standpoint with existing headsets.” Meta’s SolutionAn artificial intelligence model is used to predict the location of the user’s legs. 

However, we will have to wait to see the AI-powered VR legs in action. Meta’s full-body avatars, which don’t rely upon mocaps, won’t be available until 2023.
