Maryland homebuyers feel ‘distraught’ after discovering strangers living in their new house.

Maryland couple faces a new challenge in home-buying. It’s not the market price. It’s the two squatters that have refused to leave the property. 

The couple had hoped Tuesday would mark the closing of the house in Prince George’s County Maryland. They are trying to find a way to make it happen. Squatters must be removed

Realtor Melea King and broker Wyevetra Jordan, from Home Team Realty Group, joined “Fox & Friends” Tuesday to discuss the ongoing battle of their client.

King stated that they are having that feeling and are so upset about the whole thing. “They seem to be almost ready to give up on moving forward.”

They claimed they had a lease that granted them access to the property. They called the police. 

The home in Clinton, Maryland, that the couple is purchasing, according to WUSA9.

“It was illegal for them be there. The officer should move them at this time. King stated that King did not believe there was any reason for the incident to reach this point.

The couple were referred to policeSince it was a civil matter, contact the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office. 

Jordan voiced concern about Maryland’s squatter laws. These laws are creating legal obstacles to the couple’s efforts to expel trespassers.

Jordan stated that he believes it places a burden on new owners. It is a burden on taxpayers to have a court process in place to remove people that should not be there. That needs to change.

King was also outraged at the system, as King continues to help the couple overcome legal obstacles to obtain their new home.

Jordan wants to see a quick resolution for her client, but also to see more permanent changes in the law to prevent similar situations from happening again.

Jordan stated that he expected that authorities would quickly issue arrest warrants to or some other means of moving the people who have clearly broken into the home. Jordan also said that a change in laws could be made so that taxpayers and homeowners don’t have to go through such a lengthy process.
