Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will reprise his role as DC Comics’ villainous Black Manta in next year’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Abdul-Mateen will also have the opportunity to play a superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. DeadlineAccording to reports, Abdul-Mateen was cast as Simon Williams. Wonder ManTo be featured in his own Disney+ series.
Don’t let the name fool you. Marvel’s Wonder Man has nothing to do with DC’s Wonder Woman. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, artists Don Heck and Jack Kirby, created Simon Williams in 1964 to be a unique Avengers villain. Simon was a disgraced executive, who was granted superpowers from the Masters of Evil for infiltrating and betraying the Avengers. Simon, despite the fact that he was almost killed by the Masters of Evil, sided with them and turned against them.
Wonder Man was revived in the ’70s and he became a regular part of the AvengersAs a comic, he was also a member of the team. He was also a famous stuntman and actor, which sometimes interfered with his professional life as a hero.
Abdul-Mateen has a lot of genre experience, including starring in several films. Candyman (pictured above), HBO’s WatchmenAnd The Matrix Resurrections. He stars in the Broadway revival Topdog/Underdog.
So far, there is no confirmed cast member. Wonder ManBen Kingsley, who will play Trevor Slattery in a reprise of his role. Iron Man 3And Shang-Chi & the Legend of the Ten Rings. Trevor’s inclusion appears to imply that the Wonder Man series will lean into Simon’s quest to become a rich and famous actor.
Shang-ChiDirector Destin Daniel Cretton will be the executive producer Wonder Man alongside head writer Andrew Guest. Cretton will also be directing the series, although it does not have a release date at this time.
