Mark Hamill, who is best known for his role in “Star Wars,” has sent at least 500 drones to Ukraine to aid the war effort. He said this in a Wednesday Bloomberg interview.
“Very simply: Ukraine needs drones. They determine war outcomes, protect their land and their people, monitor the border, they are eyes in the skies,” Hamill told host Joe MathieuIn the radio interview.
As a celebrity ambassador for fundraising in Ukraine United24 InitiativeHamill advocated for surveillance drones being sent to Ukraine’s frontlines to enhance surveillance and mapping of the invading region. Barbra Streisand and Liev Schreiber, Imagine Dragons and Balenciaga creative Director Demna are other ambassadors for the “Army of Drones.” program. Deadline reported.
The United24 “Army of Drones,” program asks for donations of funds, camera-equipped tactical unmanned drones and camera-equipped tactical unmanned aircraft “to strengthen the Ukrainian Army and save the lives of thousands of our defenders.”
Hamill: “I was shocked because they send me updates at least twice or three times per week about what’s happening and they claimed they’ve received more than 500 drones since they started this.” told Mathieu. It is not clear if Hamill contributed any personal funds to the initiative, or if the 500 drones were purchased from funds he raised as an ambassador.

Hamill has been vocal about his support to Ukraine for months. Memes about “Star Wars” Interviews about the war effort, drawing parallels between “Star Wars”‘ fight between Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance and ongoing Russian invasions of Eastern European countries.
Deadline reported Hamill, “I know that Ukrainians need drones in order to protect their land and freedom, as well as the values of all democratic countries.” Statement last month. “Right now is a great time to unite and support Ukraine in the war against the evil empire.”
