Mariners sign Luis Castillo to a 5-year, $108 Million extension

The Seattle MarinersSigned right-handed pitcher Luis CastilloThe team announced Saturday that it had extended its five-year contract for $108 million to the end. According to sources, a sixth-year vesting opportunity could bring the deal up to $133 million. The extension was first reported by Jeff Passan, ESPN.

“I feel great,” Castillo said in a statement. “Every baseball player wants to have a dream like this become a reality. I’m happy I was able to accomplish this with the Mariners and I want to thank everybody in the organization for treating me so well.”

According to a source the new agreement includes a complete no-trade clause in the first three years. It begins in 2023 and continues through the 2027 seasons. Castillo and the club both have options for 2028.

“Luis has been one of the top pitchers in MLB over the past six seasons,” Mariners president of baseball operation Jerry Dipoto said in a statement.
