Manchester United star Raphael Varane ‘out until the World Cup’ with hamstring knock after leaving Chelsea pitch in tears with injury not as bad as first feared

Raphael Varane of Manchester United has been reported as being out of action until World Cup due to a hamstring injury sustained during the 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

The 29-year-oldAfter hitting the deck on Saturday, he left the pitch in tears at Stamford Bridge. There were fears that he might have sustained an ACL injury.

Varane immediately fell to the floor after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang passed him. Medical personnel quickly ran to his aid.

Victor Lindelof was his replacement. The Swedish international will likely replace Harry Maguire.

According to ESPN’s Julien Laurens, Varane faces up to four weeks on the sidelines, with France gaffer Didier Deschamps to make a decision if he calls him up for his Les Bleus squad.

He Tweet: “I’m told Raphael Varane suffered a lesion on his femoral biceps which is less serious than thought originally.

“He should be out between 3 to 4 weeks & sees the MRI results as positive.

“He won’t play for United before the WC & then Deschamps will have to make a call on him.”


Erik ten Hag quickly dismissed fears Varane might miss the global tournament next month in Qatar. West London: Drawn.

The Red Devils boss said: “It is difficult to say how it is now because it is so soon after the game.

“We have to wait 24 hours and then we will know what it is.

“We have all seen he came off but with an injury like this we always have to wait a minimum 24 hours and the medical staff can do their job and can set the diagnosis.

Fans were worried Varane may have suffered an ACL injury and Varane was seen leaving the pitch in tears.

“I can understand, we can all probably understand he would be emotional, but I think he also has to wait. You don’t know [how bad it is].

“Of course he is experienced, but [the]Medical [staff] have to do their job, have to make the assessment and set the right diagnosis, and then from there on can come a conclusion.”

Varane has played in 11 of the competitions’ games this campaign and will miss six matches for United.

He will be absent for the upcoming Europa League tie against Sheriff, before United’s home Premier League fixture with West Ham.

United will then be without the player in their crunch match against Real Sociedad, a Spanish side. This game could decide who finishes first in Group E.

Real Madrid’s legend will be absent from Aston Villa, where he will play with the Villans in the Carabao Cup match four days later.

And Varane is also out for the visit to Fulham at Craven Cottage in United’s last match before the World Cup.
