Nate Mook was driving through Kramatorsk, Ukraine, when he noticed something.
A long line of canines were patiently waiting on the sidewalk to eat at the pet food station Mook had set up the day prior.
Mook tweeted, “I’ve never seen anything like this.
I’ve never seen anything like this. We installed a station to feed displaced pets in Kramatorsk yesterday (with your help!). Today, Ukrainian dogs waited patiently to be fed. 🇺🇦🐕 pic.twitter.com/5aEDCvUE2n

According to The BBC’s estimates, Ukraine’s ongoing Russian invasion has led to the displacement of more five million people in neighboring countries and of more seven million inside the country. Mook actively participated in the support of Ukrainian pets that lost their homes during this period.
Mook told The Dodo, “We’ve witnessed a big need for support for the animals. “Dogs and cats with previous residences.”
Many volunteers have offered their help. But, there is a growing need for resources and funds.
Another tweet from Mook stated that “food demand is enormous in freed regions, but also for vets & removing dogs from the frontline.” Volunteers are putting their lives in danger to save cats and dogs.
UPDATE about the 🇺🇦 cats (and dogs)! Today I delivered 500lbs pet food to Sviatohirsk. This is Irina’s house where she takes care of 38 cats & many dogs. There are pets wandering all over Sviatohirsk & other newly liberated cities in eastern Ukraine—and help is needed.👇 pic.twitter.com/APOcXVd1nV

Mook also donated 500 pounds of pet food to Sviatohirsk shelter that houses animals found on the streets of recently liberated cities. He also erected pet feeding stations.
People in Ukraine continue to face incredible difficulties. The locals are now seeing signs of hope thanks to the tireless efforts of Mook and others who have made a difference by fostering a community of volunteers.
