Stray Rescue of St. Louis stumbled across a dog suffering from a broken foot. Of course, they planned on rescuing, but what they didn’t know was that they were about to rescue far more.
Shortly after rescue, the dogs noticed that the dog had milk. That’s when they knew this dog was a new mama and had puppies somewhere nearby. They knew that they needed to quickly search for them.
They reached the area where the mama dog lived to check for her pups. The rescuers removed branches and crawled into bushes until they found a tiny den.
Inside the den, a hole in the ground that was like a ‘safe haven,’ was not just a few puppies, but THIRTEEN! Their mama did an amazing job hiding them to keep the puppies warm and safe.
Rescuers placed the puppies one at a time into a container and then brought them back with their mom. They were able give the mother and her pups the medical attention they required.
The mother will undergo surgery to repair her injured leg. All puppies will be spayed/neutered once they are old enough.
