Carlsen has mentioned the cheating rumors, but he also pointed to that directly in the statement

“I am aware that my actions have frustrated many people in the chess world. I’m frustrated. I want to play chess. He said that he wanted to continue playing chess at the highest level in the top events.

Cheating in chess is an issue and a threat to the game. Chess organizers, and everyone who is concerned about the integrity of the game they love, should seriously think about security measures and cheat detection methods for over-the-board chess. I considered withdrawing from the 2022 Sinquefield Cup after Niemann was invited at the last minute. I chose to play.

“I believe that Niemann has cheated more — and more recently — than he publicly admitted. His over the board progress has been unusual, and throughout our game in the Sinquefield Cup I had the impression that he wasn’t tense or even fully concentrating on the game in critical positions, while outplaying me as black in a way I think only a handful of players can do. The game helped me change my perspective.

“We must do something about cheating, and for my part going forward, I do not want to play against people that have cheated repeatedly in the past, because I don’t know what they are capable of doing in the future.

MAGNUS CARLSEN FACES BACKLASH FROM FIDE OVER ONE-MOVE RESIGNATION: ‘BETTER WAYS TO HANDLE THIS SITUATION’

“That is more than I want to say. Sadly, I’m limited in what I can speak without Niemann’s permission. I can only speak through my actions so far, and they have clearly shown that I don’t want to play chess against Niemann. “I hope the truth about this matter is revealed, however it may be.”

FIDE is the International Chess Federation. Carlsen shouldn’t have resignedDespite his title as world champion, he also acknowledged the need to fight cheating.

“First, the World Champion is an ambassador for the game and we believe he has a moral obligation. His actions can have a negative impact on the reputation of his teammates, sport results and ultimately, our game. FIDE stated that they believe there are better ways to deal with this situation.

“We share his deep concerns about cheating and chess. FIDE has been fighting cheating for years and we reiterate our zero tolerance policy towards cheating of any kind. Whether it is online or ‘over the board’, cheating remains cheating. We are fully committed to this fight and have created a group to assist in the development of sophisticated preventive measures. They already work at FIDE top events.

Niemann hasn’t directly addressed Carlsen’s letter.
