‘Madly, Deeply: The Diaries of Alan Rickman’ reveals the late ‘Harry Potter’ actor’s thoughts about his co-stars

The journal delves into several of Rickman’s off-set encounters (Meryl Streep “turns out to be fun and gossipy”), but his Harry Potter Fans were excited to hear that he intended to leave the franchise following the release of the second installment.

The Guardian reports one of his entries made in 2004, “Talking to [agent]Paul Lyon-Maris on HP exit. He believes it will happen. We are back in the project-collision zone. We will not be repeating HP. They don’t want to hear it.”

Rickman played Snape until his passing and continued to film during his treatments for prostate carcinoma. The diagnosis occurred in 2005, so Rickman’s filming was a little earlier than the filming. Order of the Phoenix.

Rickman not only shared funny anecdotes and moving stories, but also explored his frustrations while playing Professor Snape. Rickman also discussed his feelings about his younger co-stars.

Speaking about Daniel Radcliffe, he said, “I still don’t think he’s really an actor but he will undoubtedly direct/produce,” and described him as “sensitive, articulate & smart.” As for Emma Watson, he had issues with her diction, which he said was “this side of Albania at times.”

“These kids need directing. They don’t know their lines,” he wrote when he was shooting Azkaban prisonerHe regarded it as one of his favorite films from the franchise. He praised director Alfonso Cuarón for doing “an extraordinary job,” and wrote, “It is a very grown-up movie, so full of daring that it made me smile and smile. Every frame of it is the work of an artist and storyteller.”

Rickman, however, wasn’t too impressed with other Harry Potter instalments. In Sorcerer’s Stone, he was upset with the “hideous score by John Williams” and with the Prince Half-BloodHe was all-around.

“The desire to eat and even more get a drink is matched only by the need to bang the three Davids’ heads [Harry Potter producers David Heyman and David Barron, and director David Yates] against the nearest wall,” he wrote after the sequel’s afterparty. “I get the character development and the spiffing effects (dazzling), but where is the story????”

Referring to the final installment, Part 2: Deathly Hallows, Rickman wrote “I found it unsettling to watch. [It]The camera loses focus and has to switch horses midstream in order to tell Snape’s story. Audience, however, very happy.” Madly, Deeply: The Diaries Of Alan Rickman Canongate will publish the article, which will launch on October 4th.
