Los Angeles security guard discusses homeless crisis after losing a finger during an attack

Los Angeles security guard speaks out California’s Homeless CrisisAfter he was stabbed in the finger by a homeless man in Venice, he finally lost his finger.

Tariq Ali – who also goes by T – approached a drunk homeless man on June 3, 2021 after noticing the man loiter near a school. Ali recognised the man as a frequent visitor to the area and asked him to leave.

Ali attempted to machete the homeless man. After he got mad, the assailant broke the bottle over Ali’s head, and stabbed him multiple times in the wrist and torso. 

The security guard punched his attacker in the mouth, but the homeless man’s saliva infected his finger wound – causing the ring finger of Ali’s right hand to be amputated.

Security guard Tariq Ali spoke out about California's homeless crisis after he was attacked by a homeless man in Venice.

After being attacked by a homeless man in Venice, Tariq Ali, security guard, raised awareness about California’s homeless crisis.

“When he approached me, I maced his head, but unfortunately, the wind got into my eyes, and maced us.” That’s when I got stabbed in the head, slit in the wrist, and I lost a finger because of an infection,” Ali recalled to FOX 11 Los Angeles.

Ali was shocked and didn’t realize that the mace had worn off. Ali soon realized that his head wound was leaking a lot of blood.

“Once I got my composure back, I sat down and I was just thinking, ‘This is my last day. Ali said that I could have lasted about 10 minutes because I was losing so much blood.

“The next day, there was so much blood in the parking lot, I don’t even know how I survived,” the security guard added.

Ali told FOX 11 Los Angeles that the incident opened his eyes about the severity of Los Angeles’ homelessness crisis – where there are reportedly 69,000 people are homeless In the whole county.

“When my incident happened, it was the first time it was like ‘Oh my god, it’s one of us. Ali stated, “This has to stop.”

Venice residents came together to support the injured security officer, raising more than $18,000 for his hospital bills through GoFundMe. According to reports, Ali’s attacker was caught and business owners adopted new security measures.
