Liverpool’s search for midfield reinforcements continue with reports emerging they are turning their attention to South America.
The Reds’ frailties in the middle of the park have been exposed this season, particularly with injuriesThiago, Jordan Henderson, and Naby Keita.
Veteran James Milner (36), has not been the best solution. Arthur Melo was drafted on loan to provide a temporary solution.
Jurgen Klopp needs to rebuild his midfield during the next transfer window, with Jude Bellingham Most likely to be the number-one target.
Reds may consider other targets, though, so only one more is unlikely.
One such name mooted is Flamengo midfielder Joao Gomes, with Liverpool scouts monitoring the 21-year-old’s progress.
Gomes also commented in an Instagram post on the Liverpool links.
He said: “Liverpool are a team I’d play for. It is my greatest dream to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”
The midfielder has a lot of things to love. According to WhoScored (4.5), Gomes has been tackled more often than any other player this season.
A dribble success ratio of 72 percent is his best, ranking eighth in the Brazilian league of the 125 players who have tried 25 or more.
Although he might not be Premier League ready yet, he could be the type of player who learns from the likes Henderson, Milner and Fabinho before being given a chance.
