Sometimes, the right dog and the right owner meet. Some might call this luck, while others may call it fate.
That’s exactly what happened when Jackson, Michigan resident Brandon Boyers walked right into an animal shelter lately. Brandon was going to Jackson Region Animal Sanctuary to see 2 chickens that he had considered adopting. However, fate had other plans.
Brandon observed a puppy suffering from a cleft palate while walking around the sanctuary. According to Veterinary Partner, a cleft lip is a problem where part of the dog’s lip is misshapen or missing. Sometimes, one or more nostrils may seem to connect to the mouth. Boyers couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the puppy with a cleft lips. Ashley Boyers, his wife, instantly Facetimed him to tell Ashley about the adorable puppy.
The Boyers’ couple felt a strong connection with the puppy, as their boy, Bentley was born with a cleft palate and experienced issues during his first three months. Ashley said that her baby boy was happy, but had difficulties eating at first. Little Bentley had to be seated up in order to feed him. He would eat his food if she held her lips together.
Ashley immediately informed her husband that they needed the puppy and wanted to adopt him. After filling out all the necessary paperwork, and having been approved, the family was able to take the puppy home from the shelter. The shelter said that they don’t often see puppies with cleft lips or palates so it was a matter of luck that the right person came in at the right time.
“To see him have something like with a puppy means a great deal ’cause he can grow up and understand that he and his puppy both have something that they can share in common,” Ashley said.
