Landon Collins takes aim at ex-GiantsGM Dave Gettleman for ‘not wanting me here’

Landon Collins is back at the New York Giants after the team signed him to the practice squad last week, and it appears that the safety-turned-linebacker will be active this week against the Baltimore Ravens.

Collins wanted to do something. It is clear and simple: He wanted Big Blue to be his next team when he was free in 2019. The team’s old GM didn’t want him, he said.

According to the New York Daily News, “That was my only concern.” “I want fans understand that. It wasn’t the Giants. Dave Gettleman was the one who did it. … I wanted to stay, but Gettleman didn’t want me here.”

Collins wasn’t shy to tell reporters his feelings about Gettleman once he left for the Washington CommandersThey signed a six-year, $84 Million deal during the 2019 offseason.

NJ.com was told that he said at the time, “No dignity at any point.” “I didn’t know what was going on. He’s a liar. He lied to everyone. So that’s a man I do not trust. “I would like to think that no one else will either.”

Collins added that while his free agency situation was playing out, he didn’t speak with Gettleman once. Gettleman didn’t draft Collins. Jerry Reese selected him in the second round, 2015 draft.

Collins felt that, after being a member of the organization for four years and sporting a “C”, on his chest for 2018, he deserved more. Gettleman didn’t give him that, so he moved on.

Joe Schoen, the current general manager, and Brian Daboll, the head coach see an opportunity to bring back a familiar face and make an impact.

Since he’s moved on, Collins’ strengths have shown when he’s closer to the line of scrimmage. Wink Martindale’s defensive scheme caters to safety-linebacker hybrids who can rush the passer and drop back in coverage if need be, and Collins has that skill set.
