Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert, once rivals, are allies in NBA’s biggest experiment

“I owe him a little dinner,” Gobert deadpanned. “But he stole mine last year. He paid his dues. I didn’t lose as much money, though. Dinner is on me.”

Now, they can laugh about it as they ride together in Minnesota in an oversized frontcourt. For the seven previous years, however, there was no laughing when Towns and Gobert met.

They were always enemies. They would often go toe to toe at least three times a season in the Northwest Division.
