Justice Barrett rejects Biden’s student-debt cancellation

  • Justice Barrett denied a bid to block Biden’s student-loan forgiveness programme.
  • A group of taxpayers from Wisconsin filed an emergency petition at the Supreme Court Wednesday.
  • Biden’s plan to cancel billions of borrowers’ debts up to $20,000

On Thursday, Justice Amy Coney Barrett dismissed a legal challenge that was meant to stop President Joe Biden from granting student loans forgiveness.

This decision was made just a day after Brown County Taxpayers Association in Wisconsin. You can file an emergency requestThe Supreme Court ruled that Biden’s student debt cancellation program must be stopped because the president exceeded his constitutional authority by enacting relief without Congress’ approval.

Barrett, who is responsible for handling emergency requests from Wisconsin, turned down the bid. She refused to explain the situation or refer it to the full nine-member court.

This request was widely considered unlikely due to the fact that lower courts had dismissed the group’s challenges against Biden’s program and ruled that they didn’t have legal standing. The appeals process was still being played out and the taxpayers group escalated their bid to the Supreme Court. This ultimately resulted in a failure.

The Supreme Court rejected the Biden administration’s request. Federal borrowers with incomes below $125,000 will lose $10,000, while Pell Grant recipients with incomes under $125,000 will have $20,000 canceled.

Biden announced Monday that 8 million borrowers have already submitted relief requests through an online form. The form takes only minutes to complete and requires basic information such as a borrower’s email address, Social Security number, and other pertinent information.
