Former Liverpool player was unable to recover from the defeat. Hamann spoke to talkSPORT on Monday: “I think that as a big team you’re always in transition but they’ve been at the top of their capacities for the last three or four years.

“What they achieved and what they did last year was second to none. I don’t think that will be achieved again, to be within seven days of winning all four trophies and I think that psychologically it was always going to be tough this season.

“If you look yesterday, Arsenal, in the second half, were everything that Liverpool were four or five years ago. Their forward play was breathtaking. You felt like something was about to happen every time they moved forward.

“This Liverpool team looks tired, they look pedestrian and they just look flat. I’m not sure where the spark is going to come from because they’ve won games in the past, obviously they beat Rangers a couple of days ago but they’re obviously far superior to Rangers.

“I trust that they’ll know where the spark is going to come from but whether it’s the end of an era? I wouldn’t write them off, but my imagination doesn’t let me see where the spark is going to come from in the next few weeks.”

At the press conference ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League match at Rangers, Klopp was asked about Hamann’s comments about the team lacking a spark.

Safe to say the comments didn’t sit well with Klopp, who responded: “Oh great, he’s a fantastic source! Well respected everywhere!”

When informed Hamann used to play for Liverpool, Klopp added: “That doesn’t give you the right to say what you want, especially when you have no idea.”

Klopp continued: “I actually think Didi Hamann doesn’t deserve you to use his phrase to ask me a question. Do me a favor and ask my question.

“Try to ask the question without having to use the word ‘spark’, that’s the challenge!”

When asked by the same reporter on what Liverpool need to do to get some momentum, Klopp responded: “We have to keep fighting, it will not happen overnight…”

The fighting will continue. Reds travel to IbroxRangers will be the opponent in a massive Champions League match
