The appearance against Napoli was the only time that the midfielder saw action under-21.

However, things haven’t exactly gone to plan for the midfielder who was mentioned in Klopp’s injury update on Friday.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of this weekend’s clash with Arsenal on Sunday, Klopp said: “Curtis Jones was in training yesterday, looked good but that’s not his first session, he’s probably closest.

“Naby [Keita]Ox [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain] are still a little bit away and we have one new injury – Arthur.”

He added: “He got injured in the last session before Rangers, it’s a normal situation, a muscle. [Andy] Robertson is also running and looks close but Curtis is the closest to returning.”

Arthur’s injury problems have been a real source of frustration this season.

Although he arrived at the club to aid their ailing midfield, the 26 year-old was only allowed to see 13 minutes of the first team action after arriving in late August. Their 4-1 loss to Napoli in Champions League.

Liverpool have the option to buy Arthur at the end of his loan spell for £32.8million [€37.5m], but it is claimed the club have already decided that won’t be happening.

Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb even claim Liverpool are looking to ‘terminate’ his loan deal with Juventus, now that Thiago Alcantara has returned to fitness.

However, while it remains to be seen if Arthur can play a role for Liverpool over the rest of the campaign, there’s no doubt that the fresh injury blow will be bad news for the Reds with Klopp still struggling for midfield options.
