Julius Randle’s decision-making, Mitchell Robinson’s defense, Cam Reddish’s shooting and more

A handoff is just as sexy as a dribble.

It’s as basic as any play. The player grabs his basketball and passes it to a teammate. If it’s done well, it’s an effective, deceptive way to set a screen. But it’s not fancy. There’s no flash. It’s nothing to discuss at a cocktail party. Not gaudy guards, but lumbering large men are the best dribble handlers.

The dribble handoff is not something chicks like.

But that’s only because they haven’t checked out Julius Randle’s one from Wednesday night.

RJ BarrettRandle was able to bounce the ball to Randle. He went into what was more of a touch pass rather than a handoff. The KnicksThe, who completed their preseason slate on Friday, added more give-and gos to their four exhibitions than the previous season. It’s backup center Isaiah Hartenstein’s bread-and-butter, too.

This one was a little more interesting. It also worked.

Discussing only Randle’s impressive passing during the preseason misses the point of what went wrong last season. Randle wasn’t incapable of assisting in 2021-22. He was a slow thinker and gravitated towards the midrange jab step to make a play.
