Jeff Cook, cofounder and founder of Alabama, died at 73

Jeff Cook, guitarist and co-founder of the Alabama supergroup, has been taken to be with the Lord. He was 73.

The Hall of Famer was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2012 and disclosed his diagnosis in 2017. 

He was peacefully buried in his home. Destin, FloridaMonday, Don Murry Grubbs his representative, confirmed to Fox News Digital. 

Cook, who was a champion in every endeavor he attempted, bravely faced his struggle with a positive attitude,” said a press release about Cook’s death.

Country stars like Travis Tritt left tributes, calling Cook “a great man and one helluva bass fisherman.”

Kenny Chesney shared a statement with The Associated Press regarding Cook’s passing.

“Jeff Cook, along with all of the Alabama guys, were so kind and generous with wisdom when I was a young artist.” he stated. They showed a child in a T-shirt how country music could be rock, could actually be real, and could be someone like me. It was my East Tennessee upbringing that gave me the drive to follow this dream.

Jason Aldean posted a photo of Cook on Twitter Tuesday.

“So sorry to hear about Jeff Cook’s passing. He was an amazing guitarist. I spent a lot time listening to him. He wrote that he had the opportunity to perform with him several times over the years.

Aldean sent a follow up tweet saying, “RIP Mr. Jeff. You are a legend for many of us, and your influence will always be felt in country music.”

As a guitarist, fiddle-player and vocalist, Cook — alongside cousins Randy Owen and Teddy Gentry — landed eight No. Country Music Hall of Fame: 1 songs on country charts between summer 1980 and summer 1982. 

The band’s biggest hits included “Song of the South” and “Dixieland Delight.”

Cook went on his own later in life. He also collaborated with the late Charlie DanielsWilliam Shatner is the “Star Trek” actor.

In 2005, he was inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Lisa, his wife and mother-in-law, was also a survivor. Lisa was married to him in 1995.
